Friday, February 20 -- city tour & inventory

A somewhat misty morning, the valleys shrouded in fog.  That led to a humid day, though no oppressively hot.  The view out toward the mountains was very pretty!

We observed our usual morning routine, and split up for reading until lunch.  In the afternoon, we were reserved on the complimentary "City Tour" which we had also taken last year.  While Claudette and Linda were enthused about the reprise, I was pretty down on the restaurant at which we'd ended up, and felt less motivated.

In any event, the tour was 3P-8P (or so), so a hearty lunch was in order.  Using the remainder of the pork I'd braised early on, I was able to produce an Achiote-Garlic Taco dish from the bottomless Bayless repertoire.  We have an entire water-pitcher of pickled red onions, and happily they were called for this time.  We used up the remainder of our tortillas and I made some rice as well; dice up an avocado & squeeze lime juice over it, and you've got a good-looking plate.

Linda and Claudette departed for the tour, with me promising to make a full inventory of the 'frig and not be entirely useless while they were out soaking up the culture.  We have been WAY off-plan, always due to pleasant changes, but it was time to get a reading and figure out if another shopping expedition would be in order (we're still cooking from the ingredients picked up the first Sunday).  Turns out we still have several dishes to complete (using the sauces Linda whipped up), and plenty of left-overs too.  I opted to finish up the Mexican Rice Supper which made a nice meal.

L & C got home a little earlier than expected, having had a nice updated tour which had a slightly different route and stopped at a different restaurant.  Still nothing to swoon over, but at least fully-edible food and a new nook of town which we hadn't seen before.  It's a little funny to think how challenging it's been to get good Mexican food here in Mexico ... glad we can fend for ourselves.
